"Canada Geese" Workshop

This workshop is designed to teach participants how to incorporate both high detail and subtle shape into a painting to create depth. As many other workshops we will concentrate on breaking down a painting and then adding detail.

• Participant receive instruction sheet, colour swatch and template
• Participant will need a set of paints of their choosing and a painting surface.
•Derek will be instructing in acrylics and painting on primed masonite.

Day 1
Participant will work together with Derek to block in their working boards and colour mix their base colours. Day will concentrate on how to isolate colour and mix to accurately match colours. Participants will then be given first hand direction by Derek on the use of blocking in and establishing shape and form.

Day 2
With our working boards blocked in we now learn the process of creating texture in our snow. Participants will learn to use such techniques as layering, drybrush, glazing and stepping. Day 2 concentrates on the creation of texture and the further building of shape and form.

Day 3
Participants will learn to render realistic feathers and down as we paint the geese. Day 3 concentrates on the building of form in the bird and the use of directional light. We finish off the day with final "pinging" and learn how to bring the whole painting together.

The location will be at the Dartmouth Sportsplex - the Nantucket Room
Dates on Friday June 25 to Sunday June 27th (9 am to 5 pm)
Entire cost will be $300 ($50 deposit - balance due May1st)
